8 Questions to Ask Yourself This Road Trip Season
It’s that time of year again—road trip season!
We know how exciting it can be to get going on a new adventure, but there are a few questions you should ask yourself before starting your journey. To ensure your trip goes off without a hitch, we’ve complied 8 of the most important questions you should ask yourself before setting off on your expedition.
1. When was the last time I got a car wash?
There’s nothing worse than having a bunch of old bug guts swiped across your windshield while driving. So, make sure to visit your local car wash sooner rather than later! Some car washes even offer monthly passes for unlimited washes, so you can have a squeaky-clean car all year round, not just during road trip season!
2. How often do I change my oil?
We’re going to take over the role of a nagging parent here, but this one is important (trust us). Think of oil changes as hydration for cars. As humans, we drink water to make sure our bodies continue working. The same goes for cars and oil. To ensure your car continues working at optimum performance, you should change your oil every 3,000-5,000 miles (depending on the car make and model). We always suggest consulting your vehicles owner’s manual for exact instructions.
3. What’s my tire pressure?
Face it, you never want to be “that person.” You know the ones that are stuck on the side of the road changing a flat tire and attracting attention? So, stay on top of your tires by checking your tire pressure regularly.
Tip: Most gas stations have air pressure stations that are either free or require a small charge (so you can finally put all that loose change you’ve hoarding in your car to good use).
4. How clean is my car?
Nothing weighs a road trip down more than clutter, so keep your car clean and free of garbage! We suggest disposing of garbage during each fuel stop in addition to adding a small garbage can to the back seat for longer car rides! I think we can all agree that there’s nothing worse than the sound (and smell) of old garbage rolling around in the backseat.
5. What are my vehicle fluid levels looking like?
We can’t think of anything worse than trying to clean off a dirty windshield while going 80 on a highway just to discover your windshield wiper fluid is out. That’s why we suggest checking on ALL your cars fluids before you hit the road. This includes Freon, oil, and windshield wiper fluid, just to name a few. Because if there’s anything more important than having a clean windshield on a road trip, it’s having air conditioning and a working engine.
6. When was the last time I changed or added an air freshener to my car?
Sure, keeping your car clean and free of garbage can help omit smells, but that doesn’t make you immune to the smells outside your car that can easily drift through the air vents. Keep your car smelling fresh and clean by adding your favorite scent to the interior of your vehicle.
7. How much gas do I have in my car?
Ok, we realize this is a given, but you never know when you might feel the urge to hop in the car and start a new adventure, and nothing puts a damper on that more than having to stop at the gas station before you hit the road.
Tip: Not only is fueling up along the way a good idea for your car, but it’s also a good idea for you! Nothing feels better than getting out of the car and stretching your legs after a long stint on the open road!
